Tutti I Colori Del Buio - Initiation Into Nothingness (2016, Bare
Teeth Records)
TUTTI I COLORI DEL BUIO
began at the end of 2013 in Turin, Italy, from four friends previously involved
in such bands as Marmore, Last Minute To Jaffna, and Magdalene, all active and known within
the Italian scene.
Powerviolence
is a genre that was brought back to somewhat popularity with Nails recently but that is a hybrid of
Hardcore Punk, Grindcore, and Crossover. Never far from 1980’s punk and D-beat
(obviously think of Discharge), such
legendary acts like Spazz have paved
the way for further bands like Tutti I
Colori Del Buio.
Inspired by
the huge movement of Giallo films of the 1970’s and 1980’s most notably of directors
Michele Soavi, Lamberto Bava and Dario Argento, this genre was slasher
Horror with overbearing aesthetics and sublime mise en scène. Back to our Italian Powerviolence band, their
message is also based on a socio-political critic; the source of Hardcore Punk
itself à la Minor Threat and Black Flag.
With the
genre itself, comes many patterns, one of them is the poor production quality
and the uneven sound mixing. While in some genres it is kvlt to sound like shit, in the one in question here it is more or
less a way to be DIY even if this expression has been used like a eighty years
old hooker.
Overall, I
think this is a decent album that at 27 minutes is not feeling long but at the
same time it doesn’t feel like it should be longer. TICDB don’t inspire us to ask for another piece, it is not a
suplice or a difficult album. It is a bit middle of the road and if it was not
for the song ‘’Tutti I Colori Del Buio’’, it would have been a very homogeneous and
one trick song (read here pony) record. Song to check : ‘’More Than
Sartre, Less Than Allin’’.
