THE SHIVA HYPOTHESIS – Demo

The Shiva Hypothesis – Demo (2015, self-released)

Shiva is the Hindu god of destruction and the Shiva Hypothesis is an hypothesis that explains an apparent mass extinction caused by impact events. So the band The Shiva Hypothesis from the Netherlands is a contemporary Black metal outfit that is inspired, as the drummer BN told me, by Behemoth, Emperor, Immortal, Death, Ved Buens Ende, Mayhem, and Gorgoroth .

This is a great mix of some of the most interesting names of what the 1990’s Metal has produced. But when an band shouts its influences we are more than tempted to try to find the similarities between the pupil and the masters. The most fascinating thing here is that The Shiva Hypothesis doesn’t sound much like its influences. Here and there the music has progressive Death metal sonorities but it is mostly Black metal without the Symphonic sound of Emperor, or the Norwegian Black metal formula of most of the bands cited above.

Overall, this is an interesting first effort and I’m looking forward to their future and see what they could do with a producer and the support of a label they would deserve.
