HEIMSDALLS WACHT – Der Untergang der alten Welt

Music Review : Heimsdalls Wacht – Der Untergang der alten Welt (2006-2015, Heidens Hart Records)

Rising from the earth of Gemany in 2004, Heimsdalls Wacht are a duo performing solid revivalist black metal from the early 1990’s à la Gorgoroth, Satyricon, and Ulver. Without falling into the corny Darkthrone or Emperor wannabe easy path that too many trve Norwegian black metal acts have fell into, Heimsdalls Wacht have a solid and well produced piece of metal.

With all that said, Heismdalls Wacht is navigating between antichristian black metal and pagan metal while not being so sure which way to fully embrace. Not that there is a choice to make but the record seems to be mostly into the pagan side of metal while keeping a grim angle to their music. The production is what stands out the most as clear with a nice atmosphere and a loudness that highlights every element without being artificial or denatured for the genre.

Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this reedition that as the promo stated this is not a remaster and there is nothing different than the original release. Just the same album trve to the original.
